Your board-certified, family orthodontist (Dr. Battle) is committed to creating balanced, healthy smiles for our Orlando communities.
A huge part of that commitment is providing truly comprehensive orthodontic care.
Through dentofacial orthopedics, we take orthodontic treatment one step further to achieve a clinically excellent outcome that transforms your appearance and confidence.
It’s not just about the appearance of the smile. It’s about facial structure too; where ‘dento’ meets ‘facial’.
While orthodontic treatment primarily focuses on the position of the teeth and jawbones, dentofacial orthopedics focuses on the development of the face as it relates to the teeth and jaws.
The purpose of dentofacial orthopedics is to guide the bones that support the teeth and contribute to the appearance of the face to promote harmonious, proportional development.
By combining orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics into a custom treatment plan, your Orlando orthodontist can optimize your aesthetics and functionality with greater comfort and efficiency.
Dr. Battle has over 20 years of experience in both orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics.
His educational background includes a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies with High Honors in the Specialty of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics.
With Premiere Orthodontics in Orlando, you get more than ‘straight teeth’. Dr. Battle creates beautiful smiles by shaping the foundation beneath them, designing balanced, harmonious results that enhance both appearance and overall facial proportions.
Dentofacial orthopedic treatment is most efficient when the jawbones and facial bones are still developing. Treatment that begins while the bones are still growing works in tandem with the patient’s natural development process.
Because children’s bones are still developing, early intervention (or early interception) with dentofacial orthopedics is highly effective and can reduce treatment time significantly.
Dr. Battle has deep expertise in early intervention and kids’ orthodontics. At your child’s first orthodontist appointment, he carefully evaluates jaw growth, facial development, and bite alignment to determine whether early guidance would benefit your child now, or if monitoring is the best approach.
To find out whether your teeth or jawbone alignment is affecting your facial structure, you can book your complimentary consultation with Premiere Orthodontics.
Your board-certified orthodontist and dentofacial orthopedic expert, Dr. Battle, will perform a full exam to assess your teeth and jawbones.
Orthodontic appliances may be used alongside braces or clear aligners to treat the jaws, teeth, and facial features as efficiently as possible. Once we examine your smile, we’ll determine the best plan of action and create a personalized treatment plan to help you achieve a healthy smile.
For many children, dentofacial orthopedics starts with watching rather than treating. If Dr. Battle’s first exam shows that a child is not ready for treatment yet, they join our Kids Club observation program, with a complimentary check-up about every 6 months. At each visit he tracks tooth eruption, jaw growth, bite alignment, and spacing and crowding, so the right moment to step in is not missed.
When guidance is needed, it often begins with an appliance such as a palatal expander, which widens a narrow upper jaw so permanent teeth have room to come in. This Phase 1 care typically happens between the ages of 7 and 10. Phase 2 follows in the early teen years, once the permanent teeth have emerged, and uses braces or clear aligners to bring the teeth and jaws into a harmonious relationship.
Our office at 448 S Alafaya Trl, Ste 10, just off SR 408, is a practical stop for families in Avalon Park, Union Park, Conway and the neighborhoods served by Deerwood Elementary and South Seminole Academy. We are open Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and DentalMonitoring virtual check-ins cut down on how often a child needs to leave school for an appointment.
Guiding the jaws while they are still growing works with a child’s natural development. Once the facial bones have matured and stabilized, a skeletal mismatch can no longer be redirected with an appliance, and severe cases may call for corrective jaw surgery combined with braces. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first orthodontic screening by age 7, or sooner if a parent notices a concern.
To see what is happening below the surface, Dr. Battle relies on 3D CBCT imaging, low-radiation digital x-rays and a digital scan instead of putty impressions. The 3D view shows the jaw bones and joints and can also reveal airway concerns, which matters because a narrow jaw can restrict breathing and contribute to mouth-breathing, snoring and sleep problems.
Dr. Battle is the area’s only Board-Certified Specialist in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. His advanced certificate in the specialty comes from the Jacksonville University School of Orthodontics, and he is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics.
Growth guidance is designed for patients who are still growing. For adults whose jaws have stabilized, Dr. Battle explains whether braces, clear aligners or surgery combined with orthodontics fits the case, so the plan is honest from the start.
Yes. Team members who speak Spanish can explain the exam findings, Kids Club visits and any appliance plan, so parents leave knowing exactly what comes next.
